Web browsers: Unicode, HTML 4 and JavaScript 1.2
The "Online translations" services will work with a computer using Netscape Navigator 4+, Internet Explorer 5+ or more generally using any browser compatible with Unicode, HTML 4 and JavaScript 1.2 (see the page http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/browsers.html for a list of Unicode-compatible browsers).
Fonts: Unicode
For the Lao texts to be displayed correctly, you need to install a Unicode font such as the "MahaSila" in your computer (this font is included both in LaoUniKey and in LaoWord).
Text input: keyboards
Lao texts can be typed thanks to LaoUniKey with any of the five following keyboard layouts: Lao France, Lao France New, Lao US, Duang Jan et Sida Thong (click on the links to see the keyboard layout).
Existing texts previously typed with non-Unicode fonts
All the existing Lao fonts do not comply with the Unicode Standard yet. If you wish to translate a text that has already been typed with a non-Unicode font, you'll need to transform it into the Unicode format first. This can be done thanks to the LaoWord software (Windows only).
