Your computer

Is your computer ready for Lao Unicode?

A Lao Unicode-compatible font called MahaSila has been installed with LaoUniKey. To check whether your computer is able to display it properly or not, compare the two following words:
- ສະບາຍດີ,
- .

If the two words are different and if you installed a Lao Unicode font in your computer (the MahaSila one should already be in), then you have to check if your browser is configured so the Lao Unicode characters are associated with a Unicode font.

For more details, please see the excellent Web site done by Alan Wood. It will inform you on how to use Unicode in your computer (Unicode-compliant operating systems and browsers, browsers configuration, text editors and word processors, fonts...).

To extend the Lao display (Windows NT, 2000 and XP only)

When LaoUniKey is configured for a display in Lao (see the item Select your language in "Configuration of LaoUniKey"), the title bars, message boxes, menu items and tooltips remain in Latin 1 (e.g. English).
To extend the Lao display to these zones, proceed as follows :
- Right clic on the desktop background and select the "Properties"menu item,
- Select the "Appearance" tab,
- In the "Item" drop down list, select a Lao-compatible Unicode font for "Active Title Bar", "Message box", "Tooltip" et "Menu",
- Press "Apply" and then "OK".
